Ex-Dragon Age creative director reveals a new physics-based game!

In 2020, Mike Laidlaw, former creative director of Dragon Age,
teamed up with Ubisoft veterans Jeff Skalski, Frédéric St-Laurent B, and Thomas Giroux to establish Yellow Brick Games. Now, after three and a half years, they’ve unveiled their latest endeavor: Eternal Strands, a new action-adventure game.

Eternal Strands tells the story of Brynn, a young Weaver with magical abilities, on a mission to restore her people’s cultural homeland by unraveling the mysteries of the Enclave, a once-mighty nation. Along the way, she’ll face various adversaries, including towering 25-foot monstrosities called Arks, which she can scale to engage in combat.

The game’s standout feature is its advanced physics-based systems, allowing players to utilize the environment and weather conditions strategically in battles. For example, players can hurl boulders using telekinetic powers or use trees as shields against enemy attacks.
As a Weaver, Brynn can wield powerful magic that interacts with the surroundings, such as ice spells being more potent in cold climates and fire spells igniting dry vegetation during heatwaves.

Mike Laidlaw expressed his excitement for Eternal Strands, emphasizing its focus on fun, experimentation, and player agency within a fantasy setting. Visually, the game shares similarities with titles like Immortals Fenyx Rising, but its interactive systems draw comparisons to games like Divinity and Baldur’s Gate 3, with dynamic environmental interactions and real-time combat.

Moreover, the physics systems extend beyond combat, enabling creative exploration. Every surface is climbable, and magical abilities can be used to create bridges or launch Brynn across the world. As players uncover the Enclave’s secrets, they can return to base camp to engage with a diverse cast of characters, each eager to unveil the mysteries of this lost civilization.
