In late 2022, Amazon Luna and Ubisoft strengthened their partnership by allowing subscribers to stream Ubisoft games they already owned on PC. Now, Amazon and Ubisoft are taking their collaboration a step further by introducing a new feature to the cloud gaming service: the ability to purchase games directly from the platform. Subscribers can now buy select Ubisoft games through Luna, including various Assassin’s Creed titles, Far Cry games, Child of Light, and Watch Dogs.
Customers can make game purchases from within Luna using their Amazon account, provided their Ubisoft account is linked. Amazon ensures that subscribers will own the license for any game they buy, and they can play these titles on Luna-enabled devices or download them for offline play via the Ubisoft Connect PC launcher on a computer. Luna-compatible devices include Fire TV devices,
Chromebooks, and smartphones.
All purchased titles will appear in the customer’s Luna library, and any in-game purchases will sync with their Ubisoft account, regardless of where they make these purchases. It’s important to note that subscribers or Prime members will only be able to stream the games on Luna while they have an active subscription, but they won’t lose access to the games if they cancel their subscription.
This move by Amazon Luna brings to mind Google Stadia, which was the only cloud gaming platform that allowed users to purchase games when it was still available. However, Amazon has not mentioned whether it plans to expand game purchases to include titles from other developers.
