The Witcher 1 Remake: everything we know so far!

Thanks to the success of the initial release of The Witcher, CD Projekt RED has been able to expand its brand and achieve ongoing triumphs.

More than 15 years after the debut of the beloved game from the Polish studio, news of an official remake has emerged. Among the various projects announced by the company in 2022, a revamped version of the original is in the works. We now have details about The Witcher 1 Remake, including the production team and gameplay plans.

At the close of 2022, CD Projekt RED revealed five new projects to eager fans. Among these, Project Orion aims to continue the journey of Cyberpunk 2077, while “Polaris” promises a fresh trilogy set in The Witcher universe.
Of the remaining projects, “Canis Majoris” stands out, heralded as the official remake of The Witcher 1.

Interestingly, CD Projekt RED has entrusted the development of the remake to an external studio, Fool’s Theory, a Polish-based team with connections to the original Witcher games. The remake will be supervised by experienced CD Projekt developers, ensuring a polished product. The transition to Unreal Engine 5 reflects a commitment to enhancing game quality and avoiding past errors.

The remake promises an open-world experience, a departure from the original game’s design. This shift necessitates significant adjustments to gameplay mechanics and world design. Adam Kiciński’s statements hint at a release post-The Witcher 4, indicating a potential launch around 2028, aligning with the company’s current priorities.
