V Rising, the popular survival ARPG from developer Stunlock Studios, is gearing up to leave early access on May 8, with plans underway to bring the game to the PlayStation 5. While the PS5 version was initially announced as a console exclusive, its release date for Sony’s current-gen system is still awaiting confirmation.
Originally debuting on PC in May 2022, V Rising quickly rose to prominence, with Stunlock Studios revealing sales surpassing 3.9 million copies as of February 2024. The game has garnered widespread acclaim, boasting over 68,000 “Very Positive” reviews on Steam. It maintained its momentum throughout its second year in early access, earning a spot on Steam’s list of most played games in 2023.
Now, the preview phase is drawing to a close, with Stunlock Studios unveiling a release date of May 8 for the PC version. However, details regarding the PS5 port’s availability beyond “2024” are still pending. The release date trailer showcased stylish new cinematics and reaffirmed the game’s status as a PS5 console exclusive, though whether this exclusivity is temporary or permanent remains uncertain.
In anticipation of the 1.0 release, Stunlock Studios has provided an overview of what players can expect. The May update will introduce The Ruins of Mortium, an endgame location fraught with peril. Additionally, a final chapter will conclude the game’s story, accompanied by dynamic endgame events, new V Blood bosses, and an additional enemy type.
Version 1.0 will also feature full controller support, likely in preparation for the PS5 launch. While specifics regarding DualSense features like haptic feedback remain unknown, details such as pricing for the PS5 edition have yet to be disclosed. The current early access version is priced at $19.99 on Steam, with a 20% discount available until March 21, though post-early access pricing adjustments are common.
Despite unanswered questions, it’s confirmed that the PS5 port will include all content added to V Rising since its 2022 debut. Co-developed with assistance from Auroch Digital, the PlayStation version ensures that fans will experience the full breadth of the game’s evolution. Auroch Digital, a British studio with a portfolio of 11 titles, most recently released Warhammer 40,000: Boltgun in 2023.
