Great news for Shin Megami Tensei enthusiasts! A recent development is fueling anticipation and lending more weight to the leaked game lineup from Atlus.
Shin Megami Tensei 5: Vengeance has received a rating in South Korea,
and the implications are promising. The leaked classification suggests that the yet-to-be-announced title is a comprehensive edition of Shin Megami Tensei 5, bundling all the DLC and potentially featuring some extra content.
Rumors of an enhanced version of the latest installment in the Shin Megami Tensei series have been circulating online for years. These speculations, rooted in the RPG’s history, are closely tied to the belief that SMT5 might extend its reach beyond the Nintendo Switch. The first inklings of this possibility emerged in the late 2021 Nvidia GeForce NOW leak, hinting at a potential PC port.
Fast forward almost two years, and the South Korean Game Rating and Administration Committee has bestowed an age rating upon an undisclosed title, Shin Megami Tensei 5: Vengeance. According to Gematsu’s discovery, Vengeance appears to be a comprehensive edition of the fifth installment, encompassing all existing DLC and undisclosed enhancements. The rating, initially posted on February 16 and later removed from the regulator’s site, aligns with historical patterns, as content classifications for Atlus titles have often preceded market releases by up to six months.
This development aligns with recent reports from Sega leaker Midori,
who has consistently asserted since September 2023 that Atlus is actively involved in a project “connected” to Shin Megami Tensei 5. A refreshed edition of the critically acclaimed RPG would seamlessly fit this description,
a notion further hinted at by Chinese leaker Diandong Langke Lu Xun in June 2023.
In Atlus’s RPG history since Shin Megami Tensei 3: Nocturne in 2003,
nearly every major title has received a comprehensive edition. Therefore,
the prospect of SMT5 following suit is entirely plausible. Regarding potential new content in SMT5: Vengeance, speculations include the introduction of additional demons, as recent datamining efforts revealed unused versions of Dagda, Krishna, and Satan in the original game.
While the Vengeance rating lacks specific platform mentions, persistent rumors of Shin Megami Tensei 5 PC and PlayStation ports have instilled fresh confidence among fans that the game is poised to transcend its Nintendo Switch origins. Considering Sega’s strengthening ties with Microsoft, an Xbox version is also deemed possible. Broadening our view, Vengeance might not be the sole SMT project on the horizon. Midori recently disclosed that Atlus is concurrently working on a Netflix series spin-off and a remaster of a PS2-era franchise entry speculated to be SMT: Digital Devil Saga. Exciting times lie ahead for Shin Megami Tensei enthusiasts!
