A sneak peek into the next Ghost Recon: Project Over!

The gaming world is buzzing with excitement as details of the highly anticipated next installment in the Ghost Recon series, codenamed Project Over, have recently surfaced online. For fans who’ve been eagerly awaiting news on the tactical shooter franchise, it seems that the wait is finally over.

The Ghost Recon franchise, known for its strategic gameplay, took a bold leap with its last release, Ghost Recon Breakpoint, in 2019. Developed by Ubisoft Paris, the game embraced online play and delved into the live service aspect of the gaming market. However, the introduction of NFTs in December 2021 proved to be a less successful venture, generating only around $400 in total. By April 2022, live service support for the game was discontinued.

Now, Insider Gaming has spilled the beans on the upcoming Ghost Recon entry, Project Over, with a speculated release window of 2025-2026. One of the most significant changes in this installment is the shift to a first-person perspective—a departure from the franchise’s traditional third-person viewpoint. The last time Ghost Recon dabbled in first-person was with the 2007 release of Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter 2. While Wildlands and Breakpoint (2017 and 2019 releases) offered optional first-person modes, Project Over is poised to fully embrace this perspective.

Drawing inspiration from the acclaimed Modern Warfare series, both in gameplay mechanics and tone, the game is expected to boast graphics on par with VOID Interactive’s Ready or Not. Set against the backdrop of the fictional Naiman War, Project Over aims to tackle controversial missions, including a scenario where a squad is on the brink of shooting a man carrying a baby, suspecting the child to be a potential threat.

This mission may ring a bell for FPS enthusiasts familiar with the contentious Clean House mission from the 2019 Modern Warfare game. In that mission, players are tasked with raiding a house, leading to the discovery of a mother and her child. Players faced with the choice to harm the mother or child are met with consequences that question their decisions, emphasizing the message that “children are non-combatants” and urging players to reflect on their choices.

As the gaming community eagerly awaits further details and an official release announcement, it’s clear that Project Over is gearing up to bring a fresh perspective and intense gameplay experience to Ghost Recon enthusiasts. Stay tuned for more updates on this exciting venture into the world of tactical shooters.
