The truth on Epic Games ‘hack’ hoax, unmasked!

Here’s the scoop from last week: you might have heard some wild rumors about Epic Games, the brains behind Fortnite, getting hit with a massive hack. But guess what? Turns out it was all just a big load of nonsense! Epic Games quickly shut down the rumors, saying there was zilch evidence of any hack going down. And now, get this, the folks who claimed to be behind the hack are admitting it was all a scam. Can you believe it?

According to a fresh report from Cyber Daily, this so-called hacker gang, Mogilevich, isn’t even a real hacking group. Nope, they’re more like self-proclaimed “criminal geniuses” and “professional fraudsters” who cooked up this whole scheme to get some attention. They used their shady blog on the dark web to make it seem like they nabbed a ton of data from Epic Games. Sneaky, right?

One of their reps, Pongo, spilled the beans to Cyber Daily, saying they’re not in it for the hacking glory but to scam unsuspecting folks. They even fessed up to the whole fake hack ordeal, just to show off how they pull off their cons. Talk about bold moves!

So, here’s the timeline: Mogilevich claimed they hacked Epic Games on February 28, boasting about snatching up a whopping 189GB of juicy data, like emails, passwords, and even payment info. They gave Epic until March 4 to respond, or else who knows what they’d do. Well, turns out, the only thing they did was come clean about their little charade.

Epic Games, on their end, squashed the rumors real quick, saying they had zippo evidence of any hack going down. They even took to Twitter to set the record straight. Yep, you guessed it, it was all just a big ol’ scam.

We’ve reached out to Epic Games for their take on this whole saga, so stay tuned for updates!

Now, even though this turned out to be a bust, let’s not forget that game companies have dealt with some serious data breaches before. Just last December, Insomniac Games got hit, and it wasn’t pretty. So, while this might be a funny little blip, it’s a good reminder to keep those digital walls fortified, just in case.
