In response to a fan query, the community manager at Arrowhead Game Studios hinted that Helldivers 2 may not see an increase in squad sizes anytime soon. Despite facing initial technical challenges at launch due to overwhelming player interest, the game has become a significant success for both Sony and the studio.

Helldivers 2 has thrived due to its ability to regularly introduce new content and enhancements through updates, addressing bugs and improving player experience. The developers, including community managers like Thomas ‘Twinbeard’ Petersson, have remained actively engaged with the player community through platforms like Discord, where they address feedback and provide insights into upcoming changes.

While players have expressed interest in larger squad sizes beyond the current limit of four, similar to other multiplayer shooters like The Division 2 and Destiny 2, Twinbeard indicated that expanding the squad size would be a substantial undertaking. Although it’s not completely ruled out for the future,
it would require significant effort and may not align with the studio’s current priorities of releasing updates and creating new content.

Recently, there has been online discussion about whether Arrowhead Games should focus on bug fixes or new content for Helldivers 2. Even the studio CEO, Johan Pilestedt, acknowledged the challenge of balancing these priorities to keep players engaged in a competitive gaming industry.
Finding this balance remains a topic of internal debate as the studio continues to evolve and grow.
