Prince of Persia remake undergoing complete rebuild!

After encountering numerous hurdles in development, the Prince of Persia: Sands of Time remake is reportedly undergoing a complete rebuild at its new veteran Ubisoft studio. Following the takeover of the project, the new developers have allegedly overhauled almost everything previously created by the former team.

Initially unveiled at Ubisoft Forward in 2020, the Prince of Persia: Sands of Time remake has faced various setbacks since its inception. Originally slated for release in 2021, Ubisoft Pune and Ubisoft Mumbai were tasked with the project. However, after facing significant criticism for its initial trailer, publisher Ubisoft entrusted the veteran developer Ubisoft Montreal,
the original creator of Sands of Time, with the project. With no confirmed release window, developers at Ubisoft Montreal have seemingly opted to start afresh on the remake project.

According to Insider Gaming, Ubisoft Montreal has scrapped the previous build of the Prince of Persia: Sands of Time remake inherited from its former developers, Ubisoft Pune and Ubisoft Mumbai. Instead, they are now working on a completely new iteration. While it was expected that the new developers would build upon the existing work, they have chosen to give the project a complete makeover. Furthermore, leaked footage suggests that the game is still in the early stages of development, indicating that it may be years away from release.

Additionally, the report highlights that the Sands of Time remake has undergone a rewrite and a new motion capture process. The new version promises a “realistic approach” with enhanced graphics, animations, and mechanics compared to the previous build. In a surprising twist, it has been revealed that lead voice actor Yuri Lowenthal, known for voicing Spider-Man in Marvel’s Spider-Man games, will no longer be reprising his role as the Prince, despite featuring in the game’s announcement trailer.

A Different Prince of Persia Game May Be on the Horizon While the release of the Prince of Persia: Sands of Time remake may still be far off,
rumors suggest that another Prince of Persia title with roguelike gameplay is in development. This game is reportedly being created by the Dead Cells studio, Evil Empire. Considering Ubisoft’s recent success with exploring different genres within the franchise, such as the side-scroller Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown, it seems likely that the publisher is eager to explore new possibilities within the beloved franchise.
