Crypt of the NecroDancer launches a virtual singer crossover DLC!

As noted by Gaming on Linux, the rhythm-infused dungeon crawler Crypt of the NecroDancer introduces a $2 Hatsune Miku DLC.
This expansion allows players to embody the Vocaloid digital idol, complete with her own songs and unique abilities.

Hatsune Miku brings a fresh twist to Crypt of the NecroDancer’s gameplay. Unlike other characters who dig with a shovel, she dashes through enemies, employing a strategic positioning approach reminiscent of Into the Breach. Additionally, Miku can charm foes with her new “sing” ability.

The DLC rejuvenates the game’s rhythm-based mechanics with 15 Hatsune Miku tracks, including two exclusive compositions by the original Crypt of the NecroDancer composer, Danny Baranowsky. Among these tracks are contributions from artists such as KIRA, Umetora, and Hylen.

The crossover with Hatsune Miku feels natural, considering her popularity in rhythm games, akin to other playful collaborations seen in indie gaming,
like Commander Video’s appearance in Super Meat Boy or the characters from Nidhogg and Towerfall in Samurai Gunn.

Moreover, it’s heartening to witness ongoing support and new content for Crypt of the NecroDancer, even nine years post-release. Despite challenges, including significant layoffs last May, NecroDancer Studio Brace Yourself Games remains committed to developing a full sequel, Rift of the NecroDancer.
