Last year, Baldur’s Gate 3 surpassed the expectations of its developer, Larian Studios, and the gaming community at large. Though exact sales figures are not available, it’s worth noting that the game sold an impressive 2.5 million units during its Early Access phase. Now, with continued popularity on platforms like Steam and recent releases on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S, it’s safe to assume that this number has grown substantially.
Michael Douse, Larian’s publishing director, recently shed some light on the game’s sales performance. He mentioned that Baldur’s Gate 3 has seen a significant increase in players, jumping from approximately two million to over ten million in a short span of time.
While there have been various estimates regarding sales figures,
ranging from 7.5 to 20 million units, having this insight from Douse adds a level of credibility. Despite not having an exact figure, knowing that the game has surpassed the ten million mark provides valuable context.
However, along with this success comes challenges. Douse highlighted that while most of the Baldur’s Gate 3 community is supportive, there is a small minority causing issues. These individuals are unhappy about the lack of mod support on all platforms and have been vocal about it.
Douse assured the community that the team is working on official mod support and will provide updates soon. He also emphasized the importance of constructive dialogue, urging against threats and toxicity towards developers and community members.
