It’s becoming an all-too-familiar tale in the gaming industry as we see studios downsizing their workforce on an almost weekly basis.
This time, the spotlight falls on Supermassive Games, the creative minds behind titles like The Dark Pictures series and the highly anticipated Little Nightmares III.
The British studio has reportedly let go of approximately ninety employees, marking a significant cut of about thirty percent of its total workforce. According to Bloomberg’s Jason Schreier, staff members received an email notification this morning, and the studio has since issued a statement acknowledging the challenges it faces amidst the industry’s ongoing transformations.
It’s a sobering reminder that even established studios like Supermassive Games aren’t immune to the winds of change blowing through the gaming landscape.
Quote:
“It’s no secret that the gaming industry is currently facing significant challenges, and unfortunately, we are not immune to this.
After careful consideration, we have decided to undergo a reorganization at Supermassive Games. As a result, we will enter a period of consultation, during which we expect there will be a loss of some of our colleagues.
This is not a decision taken lightly, and considerable efforts have been made to avoid this outcome.
We are acutely aware of how distressing and difficult this process will be for all our employees and will work closely with all involved to ensure it is conducted as respectfully and compassionately as possible.
We remain committed to focusing our efforts on our core strengths and upcoming titles to ensure the ongoing sustainability of the company.”
