For quite some time, there have been numerous rumors swirling around Assassin’s Creed Infinity, hinting at Ubisoft’s innovative approach to a live-service model for the game.
While similar speculations have circulated before, the latest reveals shed more light on how these elements will shape the future of the Assassin’s Creed series.
Recent Assassin’s Creed titles have sparked division among fans, starting from Origins onward. While some embraced the RPG elements introduced, others yearned for the series to stay true to its roots. The release of Assassin’s Creed Mirage last year attempted a more linear approach,
but garnered mixed reception at best. Amidst uncertainty about Ubisoft’s future direction for the franchise, it seems developers are charting a new course this time.
Insider Gaming’s latest leak offers insights into the long-rumored live-service hub for the franchise. Allegedly, Assassin’s Creed Infinity will serve as the central platform, allowing players seamless access to games like Assassin’s Creed Red, Hexe, and Invictus, among others, without needing to launch them individually.
Confirming the incorporation of various live-service elements, the report details “The Exchange” item shop, where players can purchase weekly and daily cosmetics. Another feature, Projects, is likened to a “mini battle-pass” for each character, intended to sustain player engagement during content lulls.
Of significant note is the scale of the hub, with all eight rumored titles reportedly integrated into it. This includes Assassin’s Creed Red,
Invictus, Hexe, Obsidian, Nebula, Raid, Echoes, and a remake. Among these, Assassin’s Creed Hexe is said to inject a darker tone into the franchise.
While a dedicated live-service approach might seem unconventional for the series, it’s worth noting that similar elements have been integrated into recent titles like Assassin’s Creed Valhalla and Odyssey. Notably, Valhalla became the franchise’s highest-selling game despite these changes. Considering the mixed reception to Ubisoft’s last live-service title, Skull and Bones, it will be intriguing to see how one of gaming’s most beloved franchises navigates this new territory.
