New Pokemon Spirits hit Super Smash Bros. Ultimate!

Exciting news for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate fans! The Nintendo Switch fighting game is expanding its universe with the introduction of Pokemon Scarlet and Violet Spirits.

These new additions promise in-game bonuses and fresh challenges. Super Smash Bros. Ultimate has been a powerhouse in the gaming world, captivating players with its diverse roster of Spirits—power-ups that add unique buffs and skills to the gameplay. Since its debut in December 2018, the exclusive title has amassed over 1,500 Spirits, drawing from beloved Nintendo franchises, including Pokemon. Now, enthusiasts can anticipate a Pokemon-themed update.

The official Japanese Twitter account of Super Smash Bros.
Ultimate recently revealed that Spirits from Pokemon Scarlet and Violet, along with content from the games’ paid expansion, The Hidden Treasure of Area Zero, will make their debut starting February 9. The rollout spans five days, commencing with the release of Ninth Generation Legendary Pokemon Koraidon and Miraidon. Subsequent releases include Ogerpon, Terapagos, and the Paldea starters—Fuecoco, Quaxly, and Sprigatito.

In January, characters from Supergiant Games’ Hades, Vanillaware’s 13 Sentinels: Aegis Rim, and Konami’s WBSC eBASEBALL: Power Pros joined Super Smash Bros. Ultimate as Spirits. Similar to past releases,
the new Pokemon Scarlet and Violet Spirits are expected to offer players more Spirit Points than usual.

The beginning of 2024 saw additional Spirits introduced to Super Smash Bros. Ultimate from The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom,
Pikmin, Xenoblade Chronicles 3, and Splatoon 3. These updates followed the celebration of Super Smash Bros. Ultimate’s 5th anniversary last December, marked by a special event—a noteworthy milestone for a game that had not seen a new Spirit Board event in nearly two years.

Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, renowned for its diverse characters, captivating levels, and engaging modes, has achieved immense success, boasting around 33.67 million copies shipped worldwide, according to Nintendo. Despite this triumph, fans are still eagerly awaiting news of a sequel. Stay tuned for more exciting developments in the world of Super Smash Bros. Ultimate!
