AMD introduces Fluid Motion Frames (AFMF), a performance-boosting frame generation technology, now officially available in the latest Adrenalin Software 24.1.1 package. Initially exclusive to Radeon RX 7000-series, it now supports RDNA 2 or newer GPUs. Unlike Nvidia’s DLSS 3 Frame Generation, AFMF is software-based, needing no specialized hardware.
AFMF utilizes an algorithm to interpolate frames, instantly boosting frame rates. FSR 3, based on AFMF, enhances the process with shaders and optical flow analysis, requiring game integration.
AFMF is user-friendly, accessible in any DirectX 11 or 12 game through the driver’s control panel or hotkey. While visually less accurate than FSR 3, it enhances performance when the base frame rate is around 60 fps.
Optimal use is in less visually demanding games, avoiding interference in competitive shooters. AFMF works in fullscreen mode with vsync disabled, offering a notable improvement for supported GPUs in games like Starfield.
