Sad news for fans of the Nier Reincarnation mobile game, as Square Enix has announced that the game will be shutting down in April.
The free-to-play role-playing game, which debuted in 2021 for Android and iOS, is set to conclude its storyline with the Finale: Reincarnation update on March 28, followed by the app service discontinuation on April 29.
Expressing gratitude to the dedicated players who have supported Nier Reincarnation over the 2.5 years since its launch on July 28, 2021,
Square Enix assures fans that they will continue to add content, characters, and organize various events and campaigns until the final day. Despite the closure, players are encouraged to savor the remaining time and make the most of the game’s offerings.
While Nier Reincarnation bids farewell, the blockbuster hit Nier: Automata, celebrating its seventh birthday, has not seen a new mainline game announcement from Square Enix. In November, Square Enix producer Yosuke Saito mentioned the intent to release a new entry in the Nier series, emphasizing that as long as Nier’s creative force, Yoko Taro,
is alive, there will be more to come.
Nier: Automata, an action RPG that captivated audiences with its stunning visuals and engaging combat, debuted in 2017, exceeding expectations by selling 7.5 million copies. Since then, the Nier universe has expanded with crossover events, promotions, and even an anime adaptation.
While bidding farewell to Nier Reincarnation is bittersweet, fans can look forward to the future of the Nier series and the imaginative worlds that Yoko Taro and Square Enix continue to create.
