Cyberpunk 2077’s update brings in more roleplay fun!

The 2.0 update of Cyberpunk 2077 marked a significant transformation in the game’s RPG mechanics, coinciding with the impressive expansion, Phantom Liberty. However, you may have noticed that subsequent patches focused less on intricate details and more on enhancing the overall experience. This included improvements like a functional metro system and more engaging romances—adding flavor and depth to the game.

Associate game director Paweł Sasko shared insights, explaining that enriching Night City was a deliberate choice to enhance the RPG experience. Sasko emphasized the importance of providing players with opportunities to immerse themselves in the world: “Many players expressed their desire to spend more time in the game, simply soaking up the atmosphere.”

Reflecting on lessons learned from Cyberpunk 2077, Sasko highlighted the significance of roleplaying elements, which often contribute to players’ deep engagement with the game. Despite traditional RPG pillars focusing on combat, narrative, progression, and exploration, Sasko underscored the importance of subtle experiences like riding the metro. These seemingly small details contribute significantly to the overall ambiance and player immersion.

The development team’s dedication to crafting immersive experiences led to features like the fully functional metro system. Sasko described the desire for players to experience moments of tranquility while journeying through Night City. These seemingly minor additions may appear insignificant, but they contribute greatly to the overall player experience.

In essence, while Cyberpunk 2077 may not necessitate a fully functional metro system with fast travel options available, providing players with such features enables them to shape their own narratives and immerse themselves fully in the world of the game.
