Baldur’s Gate 3 hints at cross platform mod support!

In the wake of a recent wave of criticism on social media following the latest patch release for Baldur’s Gate 3, a representative from Larian Studios has turned to X (formerly known as Twitter) to directly engage with the game’s modding community.

This tweet also provides fans with a glimpse of an exciting development coming to Baldur’s Gate 3 later this year.

Baldur’s Gate 3 boasts a vibrant modding community, where dedicated fans create a plethora of additions for the game, ranging from character appearances and subclasses to clothing and weapons, both whimsical and serious. After the release of Baldur’s Gate 3 Patch 6 and its subsequent rapid hotfixes, many mod creators took to social media to express their struggle in keeping up with the pace.

In announcing Baldur’s Gate 3 Hotfix 19, Michael Douse, the director of publishing, addressed players and modders directly. The tweet conveyed Larian Studios’ appreciation for the Baldur’s Gate 3 modding community and revealed that they are diligently working to introduce “robust” mod support for both PC and consoles. Although the exact release date for this support remains undisclosed, fans can anticipate its implementation later this year.
In a subsequent tweet, Douse mentioned that Larian has a system in mind for implementing cross-platform support, but it is still undergoing testing and is not yet finalized.

This announcement brings much excitement to the Baldur’s Gate 3 fanbase, particularly to its mod creators, who have struggled to keep pace with the game’s frequent patches and hotfixes. With each update from Larian Studios, mods can become incompatible, leaving players unable to enjoy modded campaigns until creators update their mods accordingly. The introduction of mod support would alleviate the pressure on creators to catch up after each update, resulting in less downtime for players utilizing mods.

Larian Studios’ responsiveness to the concerns of its modding community exemplifies why Baldur’s Gate 3 was honored with the Best Community Support award at The Game Awards 2023. While the company has hinted at the possibility of future DLC for Baldur’s Gate 3, players will have to content themselves with the new content planned for upcoming patches.

Nevertheless, should the official content fall short, the modding community always stands ready to provide players with an array of inventive additions they never knew they needed.
