Nintendo to discontinue repairs for additional 3DS models!

Nintendo has announced that repair services for the 2DS, New Nintendo 3DS, and New Nintendo 3DS LL (XL) systems in Japan will be discontinued once the company exhausts its current stock of parts. Although no specific timeframe was provided for when these parts will be depleted, Nintendo advised users needing repairs to contact them promptly.

This decision coincides with Nintendo’s planned shutdown of online services for the 3DS and Wii U consoles. Online services will cease on April 8th at around 4:00 p.m. Pacific time. Users are encouraged to transfer any remaining eShop points and funds to their Nintendo Accounts by March 11th, 10 p.m. Pacific time. After April 8th, only Pokemon Bank and Poke Transporter will remain functional. The Pokemon Company recommends transferring Pokemon from Pokemon Bank to Pokemon Home as soon as possible.

Furthermore, Nintendo announced via social media (translated by Twitter user OatmealDome) that repair services for the New Nintendo 3DS,
New Nintendo 3DS LL (also known as New Nintendo 3DS XL outside Japan), and Nintendo 2DS systems in Japan will be discontinued due to dwindling parts availability. This follows a similar decision made in early 2021 regarding the original Nintendo 3DS and 3DS XL models.

As Nintendo shifts its focus to supporting the Switch and its rumored successor console, older systems like the 3DS are losing significant functionality and support. Once Nintendo exhausts its parts inventory,
users seeking repairs will have to explore third-party options, which come with inherent risks. Nintendo advises those in need of official repairs to contact them promptly.
