This groundbreaking mid-match progression system introduces four distinctive abilities for all 30 legends, injecting 120 new variables into each match. As Respawn Entertainment continues its tradition of bold enhancements, Season 20 promises to be a defining era for Apex Legends.
The essence of this revolutionary upgrade system lies in leveling up your legend, coinciding with a comprehensive overhaul of Evo Shields, scheduled for simultaneous release. The upgrade process unfolds as follows:
Level 1 (gray shield): No upgrade
Level 2 (blue shield): Choose upgrade 1
Level 3 (purple shield): Choose upgrade 2
Level 4 (red shield): No upgrade
The impact of these upgrades varies dramatically among legends.
Lifeline, for instance, gains a game-changing ability to self-revive. Meanwhile, other legends receive more subtle enhancements to their ultimate or tactical abilities. During an exclusive preview of Season 20 at an Apex media summit in Los Angeles, common upgrades at level 2 included choosing between an advanced version of the tactical ability or an additional “charge” for the tactical ability.
In a presentation by legend designer John Larson, glimpses of Wattson’s upgrade granting her a second Interception Pylon and Gibraltar’s augmentation of a smaller, faster-cooldown bubble shield were showcased. This diversity in upgrades adds a strategic layer to the game, inviting players to tailor their legends to preferred playstyles.
Season 20 is poised to deliver a multifaceted experience, encompassing legend upgrades, Evo Shield transformations, ranked mode enhancements, and the introduction of the limited-time mode,
