Prepare for the arrival of Cyberpunk 2077: Ultimate Edition as CD Projekt RED announced its upcoming release on December 5, set to grace both digital and physical storefronts. This reveal may not startle those who’ve been following the developer closely, given the earlier online leaks via a PEGI rating in October.

The Ultimate Edition arrives just before the game’s three-year milestone and follows the compatibility strides made for Sony and Microsoft’s current-generation consoles. While PS5 and Xbox Series X/S owners have enjoyed Cyberpunk 2077 through backward compatibility, the official next-gen update only arrived in February 2022 after extensive bug fixes. Remarkably, a physical release for current-gen consoles has been absent until this announcement.

True to its name, the Ultimate Edition bundles the beloved RPG with all past updates and the acclaimed Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty expansion into one comprehensive package. The physical version flaunts fresh box art showcasing V, Keanu Reeves’s Johnny Silverhand, Idris Elba’s Solomon Reed, and the central character of Phantom Liberty, Song “Songbird” So Mi voiced by Minji Chang.

In a surprising move, the Ultimate Edition is slated for PC release, expanding beyond the initially leaked console versions. This marks PC as the sole platform to receive two physical releases of Cyberpunk 2077. While pricing details are yet to be disclosed, speculation suggests a pricing alignment with the base game, making it an appealing offer, especially for newcomers, considering the $29.99 value of Phantom Liberty alone.

The imminent launch of the Ultimate Edition arrives as the active support phase of the game draws to a close. Although minor patches might surface for bug fixes and performance enhancements, CD Projekt RED doesn’t anticipate anything as extensive as the massive 2.0 update released in late September. However, the Cyberpunk 2077 universe won’t slumber for long, as the developer is already engaged in crafting a sequel, aiming to mirror the evolution seen in The Witcher franchise.
