In a heartening initiative, Horizon Forbidden West, an acclaimed PlayStation exclusive RPG, has contributed to the planting of over 600,000 trees through Guerrilla Games’ reforestation endeavor.

Each player’s achievement unlocked in the open-world adventure resulted in a tree being planted, beautifying the world with every gaming milestone reached.

Launched in 2022, Horizon Forbidden West garnered widespread acclaim for its compelling storyline and breathtakingly detailed landscapes. Upon its release, the creators of the game announced a partnership with the Arbor Day Foundation and other groups to restore forests. For a month post-release, every attainment of the Reaching the Daunt trophy by players prompted Sony to plant a tree. Guerrilla Games’ dedication has borne remarkable fruit, surpassing initial expectations.

A recent video from the creators showcased the staggering achievement of planting over 600,000 trees, doubling their initial target of 288,000. In the video, Guerrilla Games’ environment artist Eva Tajovska expressed how exploring in-game vegetation and research for the project led the team to appreciate nature’s intricate details, emphasizing its preservation.

This incredible milestone owes much to the immense success of Forbidden West, selling over 8.4 million units, with a significant number sold within the first month. To earn the Reaching the Daunt trophy, players completed the initial two story quests in Horizon Forbidden West and embarked on the third, To the Brink. Most players who delved into Forbidden West during that period received this trophy automatically at the start of the mission.

While the future of the Horizon franchise is undoubtedly on Guerrilla Games’ mind, the studio continues to engage with Forbidden West. The existence of Horizon Forbidden West: Complete Edition, featuring the base game and the Burning Shores DLC, was revealed in September. Currently available for PS5, it’s set to launch on PC in 2024, though an official release date is yet to be confirmed. The game is priced at $70 on PlayStation, with a similar price expected for the PC version. You can already find it listed on Steam, where it can be wishlisted ahead of its release.
