During The Game Awards, amidst the return of Kratos’ voice actor Christopher Judge to the stage, Sony Santa Monica revealed a thrilling addition to 2018’s Game of the Year — the God of War Ragnarök Valhalla DLC.
This free DLC, slated for release on PS5 on December 12th, extends the narrative beyond the conclusion of God of War Ragnarök. Players will embark on new adventures alongside Kratos and his loyal, albeit bodyless, companion Mimir as they confront monsters within challenging dungeons. Embracing roguelike elements, the DLC presents a scenario where Kratos, upon meeting his demise, resurrects outside Valhalla’s gates, tasked to conquer its trials once more.
Sony highlighted, “With each attempt, players will adapt to Valhalla’s challenges, earning valuable resources for permanent upgrades affecting both Kratos and the very essence of Valhalla itself.”
Given Kratos’ history of facing death and returning from hell, the challenges ahead might not appear as formidable. Host Geoff Keighley, after the reveal, celebrated this generous offering of free DLC as a heartfelt gesture from the God of War developers. The DLC’s stealthy arrival just before Christmas promises to be an incredible gift for the game’s devoted community.
