A Marvel’s Spider-Man player has stumbled upon a subtle difference while playing the Remastered version of the game. As fans eagerly anticipate Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, some have been revisiting the earlier Spider-Man titles in preparation for the sequel. The original game, released on the PS4 in 2018, received a remaster in 2022. While the game largely retained its assets, there were some alterations, including changes to the Peter Parker character model. However, players continue to discover minor Easter eggs and subtle changes during their playthroughs of this PlayStation exclusive.

While it’s common to find differences between the Remastered and original versions, some players have recently made previously unknown discoveries regarding mechanics and details. One such minor discovery relates to Marvel’s Spider-Man’s combo counter limit. While these findings may not be groundbreaking, they have sparked discussions about what other secrets players might still uncover.

A sharp-eyed player, SolitarySquall, posted a Reddit photo showing a spider with a distinct difference between the Remastered and original versions. In the original release, the spider prominently displayed the number “42” on its back, while the PS5 Remastered version did not feature this number. While most speculate that this change was likely made to enhance visual quality, others have put forth their own theories. For instance, one commenter, ColonelKillDie, theorized that it might be related to legal rights concerning the broader Spider-Verse. Some players suggested it could have been an oversight, as the two spiders also differ in color.

While fans have engaged in deep discussions about whether this change was an error or intentional,
it’s important to note that Marvel’s Spider-Man exists in a distinct universe from other Spider-Man properties. Some comments have suggested that the alteration might have been made to avoid confusion with other Spider-Man iterations. This theory gains some credibility because this version of Spider-Man appeared in the Spider-Verse movies, where a spider with a prominent “42” is featured. Perhaps there are subtle distinctions between the game version and the game universe’s version. Ultimately, the reason for this change is something only Marvel and Insomniac Games can answer definitively.

While the remaster initially stirred controversy with its change in the Peter Parker character model,
the alteration of this spider is unlikely to generate a similar uproar. Nevertheless, it remains an intriguing discovery, as many players found the original spider design to be perfectly fine as it was.

Marvel’s Spider-Man is available on PC, PS4, and PS5.
